CAUSES OF SNORING

Overweight is a cause of snoring. There is a direct correlation between being overweight and snoring due to the soft tissue blockage of air passages. Changing your sleeping position to one on your side will help you sleep better, regardless of whether the snoring stops or not. You may also wish to try pillow to elevate the head to a better position.

On the other hand, removing a pillow will put the neck into the most relaxed position which opens the clogged airways and allows you to sleep more comfortable without snoring.

There is a direct correlation between smoking and snoring. In addition to the proven health benefits gained by ceasing smoking, you will find a reduction in intensity of the snoring sound if you discontinue smoking.

Limit or discontinue the use of food, alcoholic beverages, antihistamines, sleeping pills and other sedatives before retiring for the night, because all of these substances relax the neck muscles. Also avoid milk or dairy products before bed as these cause extra mucus which can cause snoring.
